The Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health is the division of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics that provides medical student education in biostatistics, epidemiology and preventive medicine and conducts research on the causes and distribution of premature morbidity and mortality in human populations due to infectious and chronic diseases. It also houses the UCSF-University of California, Berkeley Joint Residency Program in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. The Division was founded in 2001 as part of the reorganization of the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention into the Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health and the Division of Cancer Epidemiology.
