Computer Systems: Network Services

Existing offices at Beale Street and China Basin are equipped with two network jacks per office. Contact the Helpdesk when office space is to be reconfigured in order to have existing jacks moved or new ones installed.

IT installs and moves all office workstations. This ensures that IT inventory is kept current, prevents damage to hardware, and ensures your workspace has a live network connection. Use the Employee Move Form to notify the Helpdesk when you move from one workspace to another.

New Employees

Use the New Employee Check In Form to notify the Helpdesk. IT needs to know as soon as a job is posted in order to set-up workstations, network accounts, and to conduct training. A SARF (pdf or word) is needed to authorize user access to the network. IT does not keep extra computers on-hand to give or loan, so new positions may necessitate purchase and installation of hardware or software. If necessary, IT can set-up a WYSE terminal for the employee while waiting for delivery of new hardware.

Departing Employees

Use the Departing Employee Check Out Form to notify the Helpdesk of departing employees. IT needs to know as soon as an employee leaves the university in order to disable network access in a timely manner. A SARF (pdf or word) is needed to modify* or delete user access. All items purchased with department funds are UCSF property. When an employee leaves or a project ends, the items must be returned for reuse or retirement.

*On a case-by-case basis, IT will implement special handling rules for email forwarding and access restrictions for personnel who are on extended travel, sabbatical, etc. Please specify these rules in the SARF.
