Welcome to the International Health Interest Group (IHIG)
IHIG Purpose: To provide an informal means of sharing information and networking about diverse topics in IH. The Bay Area group complements the depth that specialists get in their specialty organizations with breadth --- about IH problems, priorities and programs, and about who is doing what, and how to address these problems.
Membership: Faculty from Stanford, UC Berkeley, UC Davis and UC San Francisco, clinicians and other health professionals involved in IH, and students, residents and fellows with IH interests. Membership is open (now over 400), free, and you can bring guests. Currently 25 to 45 attend IHIG meetings, about the maximum for our home venues. To receive email announcements send your email to Tom Hall at thall@epi.ucsf.edu.
Meetings: Six times during the academic year, two each in San Francisco, Berkeley and Stanford. San Francisco meetings are normally held on Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 9:00pm, and East Bay and Stanford meetings, on Sundays at the same time to avoid weekday bridge traffic. Typically: 6:30 -7:30 to meet, greet and eat; 7:30 to about 9:00 for the discussion meeting; and after 9:00, if desired, for chatting and networking. We offer a light make-your-own supper, coffee, wine, etc., so you can come without a prior meal. Each university area selects its own topics. Suggestions for future topics and resource persons are welcome; send them to Tom Hall at thall@epi.ucsf.edu for proper routing.
Annual International Health Conference. IHIG sponsors and annual conference in early spring. Lead responsibility rotates among UCSF, UCB, Stanford, and UC Davis. The 2006 conference will be held on Saturday, April 8th, at UC Davis.
Meeting format: Variable, depending on the session convener(s).
Announcements, etc. From time to time we post FYI announcements but unless time urgent, include them only at the end of regular meeting announcements to minimize e-mailings. If you have an announcement relevant to IHIG’s audience send it in brief form, exactly as you would like it to read, to Tom Hall at thall@epi.ucsf.edu.
