Cycling
Cycling is a time-efficient and predictable means of getting to China Basin.
Cycling times are very predictable (unlike driving, taking the shuttle, or public transportation) and depend mainly on the individual's cycling style. A good rule of thumb is to leave approximately 7 minutes to a mile in a city environment. Estimated times to select locations: Mission Bay 5 minutes, SFGH 25 minutes, Parnassus 35 minutes, VA 55 minutes, Ferry Building 10 minutes.
Although there is bike parking located just outside the central courtyard on 4th Street and 3rd Street entrances, it is not very secure. Several bicycles belonging to UCSF staff have been stolen from these racks. A much more secure alternative is the bike parking available in the parking garage (enter via the car entrance on 3rd and continue straight about halfway through the garage until you see a walkway on your right. There are a number of bike racks there, and more have been requested from the building).
