Dr. Hulley was educated at Harvard Medical School and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health. For 30 years, he has studied research methodology and the epidemiology of heart disease. He chairs the Steering Committee of the Coronary Artery Risk Development In young Adults (CARDIA), and is Principal Investigator of HERS II, a collaborative trial of hormone treatment in the secondary prevention of CHD events. He is PI of the UCSF K30 grant, a large post-doctoral teaching program which offers a Certificate and a Masters Degree in Clinical Research, and he is PI of the UCSF Roadmap K12 Multidisciplinary Career Development Program. He is the author of more than 200 scientific reports and a text, Designing Clinical Research, now in its second edition.
