Dr. Richard Feachem was appointed in April 1999 to be the founding Director of the Institute for Global Health (IGH), a joint initiative of UCSF and UC Berkeley. He is Professor of International Health at both schools. Dr. Feachem is the former Director and Senior Advisor for Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank, and also served for six years as Dean of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. At present, he is on a very extended leave of absence while he serves as Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. Dr. Feachem expects to return to UCSF in about mid-2007. Until then, he will not be able to address any student concerns or provide mentoring.
