Translating Evidence Into Practice:
Theory and Design

| OBJECTIVES |

This course will provide a foundation for students to develop and implement evidence-informed interventions to accelerate the translation of evidence into practice, policy, and public health. The student will be guided through the development of a research protocol for their intervention of interest. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Apply theory and evidence for understanding public, patient
and physician behavior;
2. Apply theory and evidence for designing effective healthcare interventions for translating
evidence into practice;
3. Evaluate and analyze healthcare interventions using a combination of techniques;
and
4. Develop a healthcare research protocol aimed at translating an established
intervention into practice.
| PREREQUISITES |

Designing Clinical
Research (Epi 202) or prior training in clinical research study design (e.g., MPH or equivalent). Exceptions to this prerequisite may be made
with the consent of the Course Director, space permitting. This course
will be most useful for students or health care professionals who are engaged in or have planned a
specific healthcare intervention.

| FORMAT AND GRADING |
 |
Each session will consist of 90 minutes of didactic material and/or
case studies presented by UCSF faculty of their
own translational research programs. Evaluation of student performance will be based on successful
completion of weekly homework assignments and the final protocol presentation.
| ENROLLMENT |
 |
This course is open to a limited number of individuals outside
of the ATCR and Master's programs. Preference is given to UCSF-affiliated personnel.
