Publishing & Presenting Clinical Research

OBJECTIVES

Design and execution are the first steps of a research project; presenting the results, at a meeting or in a journal, is its culmination. The objectives of this course are to provide a detailed understanding of:
  • How to prepare abstracts, manuscripts, and oral presentations;
  • What belongs in each section of a manuscript;
  • How to decide what (and whom) to include; and
  • What happens when abstracts and manuscripts are reviewed.

FORMAT

Five Tuesdays from 1:15-2:45 PM, from 3/31/09 through 5/26/09 and two Thursdays from 1:00-2:30 PM on 5/14/09 and 5/21/09.

GRADING

Grades (satisfactory/unsatisfactory ONLY) will be based on homework (50%), class participation (25%), and the final project (25%). Weekly assignments are due at the start of each class (including the first class). Please note that late assignments are not accepted.
