Outcomes Research
EPI 211 Spring 2008 (1.5 units)

| OBJECTIVES |
 |
This course will explore the types of questions that can
be addressed with large administrative and clinical databases, and how
to gain access to these databases. At the end of the course, students
will be able to:
1. Determine the validity of information;
2. Address potential confounding through risk adjustment, propensity scores,
and multi-level modeling techniques;
3. Apply outcomes research approaches to evaluating diagnostic tests and
treatments; and
4. Integrate outcomes measures into performance reports.
| PREREQUISITES |

Designing Clinical
Research (Epi 202) and Biostat II
(Biostat 208) or equivalent background in multivariable modeling (after
permission from Course Director). Exceptions to these prerequisites may
be made with the consent of the Course Director, space permitting.

This course is open to a limited number of individuals outside
of the ATCR and Master's programs. Preference is given to UCSF-affiliated personnel.
