Outcomes Research
EPI 211 Spring 2008 (1.5 units)



OBJECTIVES

This course will explore the types of questions that can be addressed with large administrative and clinical databases, and how to gain access to these databases. At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Determine the validity of information;
2. Address potential confounding through risk adjustment, propensity scores, and multi-level modeling techniques;
3. Apply outcomes research approaches to evaluating diagnostic tests and treatments; and
4. Integrate outcomes measures into performance reports.

PREREQUISITES

Designing Clinical Research (Epi 202) and Biostat II (Biostat 208) or equivalent background in multivariable modeling (after permission from Course Director). Exceptions to these prerequisites may be made with the consent of the Course Director, space permitting.
