Biostatistical Methods for Clinical
Research II
Biostat 208 Winter 2008 (3 units)
This is a second course in statistics, covering multi-predictor methods, including exploratory data analysis and multiple regression (linear and logistic). Emphasis is on the practical and proper use of statistical methodology and its interpretation. The statistics package STATA will be used throughout the course. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
Designing Clinical Research (Epi 202), and Biostatistical Methods I (Biostat 200) or Intro to Statistical Analysis (Biostat 183). If Biostat 200 has not been taken, evidence of knowledge of the use of STATA is required. Exceptions to these prerequisites may be made with the consent of the Course Director, space permitting.
1. Lectures: Tuesdays, 10:30 to 12:00, CB 6702
Regression Methods in Biostatistics by Vittinghoff, Glidden, McCulloch, and Shiboski. Springer, 2005. The statistical software package Stata (Stata Corporation, College Station, Texas) is used in the program. The TICR Program has arranged for a sizeable discount for UCSF-affiliated personnel via the Stata GradPlan program.
Grades will be based on five homework assignments (70%) and a final exam (30%). The exam will be distributed on 3/11/08 and due on 3/21/08. Late work is not accepted.
This course is open to a limited number of individuals outside of the ATCR and Master's programs. Preference is given to UCSF-affiliated personnel. We regret that auditing is not permitted.
