The Cancer Epidemiology Division in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics provides medical and post-doctoral students education in cancer, nutritional and molecular epidemiology, as well as NIH grant writing. Faculty also teach in the UC Berkeley, School of Public Health cancer epidemiology course and other epidemiology courses. Faculty conduct research on the causes of a wide variety of cancers including breast, lung, colon, prostate and brain cancers, lymphoma, leukemia, pancreas, melanoma, HPV and anal cancer precursor lesions. They also study methods to enhance early detection of cancers, conduct prevention and treatment clinical trials, evaluate quality of life, survival, and other outcomes associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Division was founded in 2001 as a result of departmental reorganization. Faculty in this division also are members of the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center.
