Introduction to Statistical Analysis

OBJECTIVES Instruction in descriptive summary statistics (mean, median, and SD); techniques for testing hypotheses (z- and t-tests, chi-square tests, non-parametric methods, ANOVA, linear regression, survival analysis); and sampling.
PREREQUISITES None.

Assigned on the syllabus and due one week after it is assigned. Homework will be graded and returned within one week. No late homework will be accepted. Appropriately annotated computer printouts may be submitted for selected problems, indicated with an asterisk on the assignment. Syllabus |

VIDEOTAPES Videotapes of all lectures from a previous year (which are similar) will be available at the Circulation desk in the UCSF library and can be viewed on the 2nd floor.
GRADING & EXAMS Grades will be based on total points achieved on homework (20%), midterm (30%), and the final exam (50%). The grade on the final is the lowest grade you can get in the course. The midterm and final will be in class and open book.
ENROLLMENT Auditors, including UCSF faculty and staff, are welcome if they do homework and take tests.
